CLASS NOTES
Jeff Seaman and his wife, Martha,
had their first baby, Kathryn Claibourne,
in November 2007. Jeff loves his home
of two years, Charlotte, N.C., where he is
a regional VP for Managers Investment
Group. He covers North Carolina, South
Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia. Jesse
Freese and his wife, Kelly Nykodym,
had baby girl Colbie Charlotte on Dec.
20, 2007.
Zack Ward and Becky Nelson
Ward traveled to Ethiopia in December
2007 to bring their son, Grant Tsedeke,
born on June 17, home in time for
the holidays. Grant joins big sister
Hannah-Claire, 3½. Julie Keefe Fusaro
and Jason Fusaro ’98 welcomed their
fourth daughter, Sienna Grace, in early
February. Myon Mulhare Valentino,
Maren Valentino, and Elsaris
Zambrana Riefkhol traveled to Tampa,
Fla., for Brooke Molyneux Shepard’s
baby shower. Brooke’s little boy, Gavyn
Wane, was born in February. Elsaris was
pregnant with her first child, a boy, who
was due in May.
Nicole Nash Davis and her
husband, Henry Davis, were expecting
their third daughter. Big sisters, Paris,
6, and Hayley, 4, couldn’t wait! The
Davis family is also settling into their
new home in the Richmond area. Amy
Mannion and husband were expecting
their first child in April. Amy was able
to catch up with Amy Miles and Katie
O’Leary Preston over the holidays
and spent a week in February with
Ali McEvoy Rehm and her family in
sunny Florida. Ali began a new job in
the education department of the Kravis
Center for the Performing Arts in West
Palm Beach.
Our class keeps moving companies
in business. In early December, Patrick
Lohmeyer and Suzette
McLoone welcomed
Bridget McLoone
Lohmeyer and bought
a house in Falls
Church, Va. – all in
the same week. Patrick
works at Chemonics,
an international
development
consulting company,
and Suzette is home
full time with Bridget
and Aidan, 2. Katie O’Leary Preston,
Ryan Preston, and son Jack moved
from Arlington, Va., to New York
in November. Ryan is an associate
director in the New York City office of
Convergent Wealth Advisors, and Katie
consults with architects and interior
designers on marketing strategies.
Brooke Catlett and her husband, Mike,
planned to move to Richmond, Va., this
summer with their son, Grant. Brooke is
the assistant principal of an elementary
school in Northern Virginia.
Some of our classmates took
on new career challenges. Colleen
Minion Uuereb started a new job
in December as an education and
outreach specialist with Thurston
County Solid Waste in Olympia, Wash.
Wendy Gehring recently left the U.S.
Department of Labor in Washington,
D.C., for a position with the office of
the federal coordinator for Gulf Coast
rebuilding in New Orleans. She serves
as the director of field operations and
oversees multiple projects in the federal
coordinator’s office.
Cynthia Owen Seifert moved in
March from Austin, Texas, to Dallas with
her husband, Eric, and their daughter,
Arden. Until Cynthia finds a new job
in Dallas, she has taken on the hardest
job in the world: at-home mom! Arden
just celebrated her first birthday. Peter
Sullivan had a small singing role in a
modern-day adaptation of the 1969
musical Hello Dolly, performed by a
community theater group in Delphos,
Ohio. Peter volunteered for the part
to inspire the students in his physical
education class and reported that he
basically lost a bet to a fifth-grader. Peter
hopes his career as a teacher turns out
better than his singing career.
Distance is not keeping classmates
from staying in touch. In March, Elise
Balkin Ice of Cleveland, Ohio, Abby
Baird Bartley of Roanoke, Va., Melinda
Del Vishio O’Neill of North Wales, Pa.,
and Susan Lee Metzger of Manhattan,
Kan., met for a mini-reunion in
Charlotte, N.C., the hometown of Susan
McAllister Walker. Abby, Melinda,
and Susan brought along their adorable
children, including Abby’s newest,
4-month-old son Keaton. In May, Dana
Halsey Banwart ’98 took her first trip
to Kansas to visit Susan. Jason Terril
saw Istanbul (not Constantinople) when
he toured through Turkey in October.
He also traveled to New York City in
February and caught up with Bridget
Malone and Jennifer Rees Schulze,
along with Jennifer’s husband Will, in
New Jersey.
Steve Terpak ’97 and his law
partner are in their fifth year
managing their Arlington, Va.,
firm, Terpak & Associates, where
they concentrate on immigration,
injury, estate, and traffic law.
Jennifer “Fer” Fearnow Elkins and
Kenny Elkins celebrated their 10-year
wedding anniversary in January. They
live in Mechanicsville, Va., and have
a son, 6, and a daughter, 3. Kenny is a
financial planner with Equity Concepts.
Jennifer stopped teaching fifth grade to
be at home with her kids, and she works
part time at her church. The Elkinses
went to Disney World with 11 family
members in February.
Steve Terpak lives in Fairfax,
Va., with his wife, Naurin, and their
daughter. They were eagerly awaiting
the arrival of a baby girl in July. Steve
and his law partner are in their fifth
year managing their Arlington, Va., law
firm, Terpak & Associates, where they
concentrate on immigration, injury,
estate, and traffic law. Steve enjoys his
ongoing professional and personal

relationships with the numerous Mary
Washington alumni in the Washington,
D.C., area.
It has been fun reconnecting with
classmates on Facebook, seeing photos,
and sharing stories. Thank you again
for everyone who takes the time to send
news.

First, my apologies to all for lapsing in
my duties as Class Agent. Hopefully,
this update will make up for the news
you’ve been missing in the past issue or
two. Here’s hoping this news finds all of
you well as we get ready to celebrate our
10-year reunion this summer!
If there were an award to give for
most thoughtful update, without a doubt
it would go to Josh Bacigalupi, who
mailed me a letter from Fort Bragg,
N.C., with news that his National Guard
Unit out of Ithaca, N.Y., was federally
mobilized for active duty deployment
in Afghanistan. He spent several weeks
in Fort Bragg and will spend a year
in Afghanistan. He writes that it was
difficult to leave his wife and family, but
“this will definitely be an adventure.”
Josh, we’re all thinking of you and
hoping for your safe return.
My husband, Deacon Chapin, and
I recently bought a house in Madison,
Conn. I am the associate director of
college counseling at Hopkins School
in New Haven, and Deacon is a
school counselor at Watertown High
School. We ask that you all raise a glass
– or can – in memory of Pabst, our best
friend, our dog, and the unofficial Mary
Washington mascot, who died in March.
Jen Carter is finishing her second
year at Richmond’s Baptist Theological
Seminary and hopes to move over to
VCU in the fall to continue her dual
master’s degrees in divinity and social
work. She is in her fifth year as a social
worker at Lakewood Manor Retirement
Community and loves her job. Through
seminary, she has reconnected with
fellow M-Dub alumni – most of whom
are younger than she! – which has been
fun. She ran her third marathon last year
and was looking forward to running the
inaugural Marine Corps Half Marathon
in Fredericksburg in May.
Shelly Singley Adkins, my first
college friend, and her husband have
three sons: John, 7, Samuel, 5, and Noah,
born in September. At some point, the
Adkins and Fusaro families should
probably get together, as Jason Fusaro
and his wife, Julia Keefe ’97, welcomed
their fourth daughter, Sienna Grace,
in February. Could this be the next
generation of Mary Washington couples?
Adrien Snedeker added Dickerson
to her last name in front of lots of
college friends on New Year’s Eve. We
all counted ourselves lucky to ring in
2008 at a great party surrounded by
friends from the past 10 years. One
of the wedding celebrants was Tim
“Thor” Roberts, who was probably
taking notes since he and his fiancée,
Sarah Chinn ’04, recently were engaged.
Tim earned his second master’s degree
from UMW and works as a school
administrator. Brian Lusk and wife
Andrea were there; they live outside of
New York City in New Jersey, where
Brian works for Accenture. Others
included ushers Josh Parker ’99, who
works as a teen counselor at a church
in Williamsburg; Clint McCarthy, who
made the long journey from Olympia,
Wash., where he is an avid mountain
climber and transportation advisor to
the governor; Robb Braidwood ’99;
and Todd Hamlin ’99. Robb’s son, Sam,
served as the ring bearer, and Robb and
wife Ashley Lewis Braidwood helped
the little one navigate the long journey
down the aisle.
Todd Hamlin works as a project
manager at Macro International for
Larry Luskin, not to be confused
with Brian Lusk. Todd plays soccer in
Northern Virginia with his lady friend,
KB, and another Todd Hamlin – long
story.
Others in attendance included
Todd’s roommates Stefan Anderson ’99
and Adam Smith ’96, Chris and Jayme
Van Horn, Kyle and Sheila Elledge
Courtney, Rob and Kelly Long Cushing
’99, Carrie Barber ’99, Nicole Levangie
Bent, Felicity Smith and husband
John Day ’97, Lina Marunas, Alistair
Millar ’99 and wife Ali, Dana Hamel
’99, Darien Berkowitz Jacobson and
husband Andy, Katie Shea, and Vickie
Blevins.
Members of the “Hanover Mansion”
crew are all doing well. Anne Wenthe
Turner lives in Westfield, N.J., and is
loving life as a mom to Ryan, 3, and
Benjamin Edward, born in December.
Anne and husband Jon enjoy traveling
and spending time with the boys.
Amanda “Mandy” Grandle Freds is
thrilled that Anne is only 45 minutes
away now; Mandy’s husband, Will, was
assigned to West Point, N.Y. – the place
they met 12 years ago! They have William,
5, and Jackson, 1, running around yelling
“beat Navy” and pestering sponsored
cadets! Maureen Southard Townsend is
in Manassas, Va., working as a librarian
at Northern Virginia Community
College. She and husband Mark have
a 2-year-old son, Jack. The foursome
is complete with Christie Cavolo
Orndorff, who recently relocated with
her husband, Brian, to Scottsdale, Ariz.,
where Christie works as a marketing
consultant. Although the others were
sad to see Christie leave the East Coast
right as they all had been reunited, the
Orndorffs love life in the fun and sun of
the West. A reunion trip to Arizona is in
the works for the near future.
Sara Reese Quinty and husband
Joe share their lives in Florida with an
adopted, retired racing greyhound,
Cappuccino, and daughter Olivia
Alexandra, born in December. Sara, a
